June//July issue of ReadyMade is out & Bruce Metcalf review

It was such a cool opportunity to get to pick stuff that I think deserves attention and have ReadyMade whip up such a great layout.

I got two pages of picks in the recent issue of ReadyMade including shout-out's to Palomino, Fasten, SkyHigh, My Love For You blog, 20x200, Portland Contemporary Craft Museum, Design For Mankind, the Cave Singers and the Third Drawer Down in Melbourne.

Also Bruce Metcalf wrote a review of Handmade Nation on the ACC Creating A New Craft Culture blog that is worth checking out if you are interested in the old school meets new school craft dialouge. Read it here.

Craft Lake City Calls for Entries from Artists and Crafters
SLUG Magazine will host alternative arts festival on August 8, 2009

SALT LAKE CITY, Friday, May 8, 2009 – SLUG Magazine is looking for crafters and artisans to vend at an upcoming craft fair. An application is available at www.craftlakecity.com . Submissions will be evaluated by a team of judges and select artists will be invited to host vendor booths at the alternative arts festival. Due to popular demand the deadline for entries has been extended to June 12, 2009.

Craft Lake City will be held for the first time on Saturday, August 8, 2009 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Gallivan Center in downtown Salt Lake City. The event is free and open to the public.

“Whether you are head of your homemaking night or an emerging artist, Craft Lake City is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in the local handmade community,” says Angela Brown, SLUG Magazine editor and Craft Lake City organizer.

Craft Lake City is an outdoor alternative arts festival that will showcase more than 50 vendors specializing in handmade goods. Affordably priced items like silk screened posters, progressive crafts, reconstructed clothing, knitted items and jewellery will be available. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day and will include craft demonstrations, street performers and musical acts. Craft Lake City is modelled after alternative national craft festivals like the Renegade Craft Fair and the Bazaar Bizarre . The event is sponsored by the Gallivan Center and hosted by SLUG Magazine. More information is available at www.craftlakecity.com .
